We are working on a project with a customer in China.  Because this will be an international shipment, we have indicated to them that payment is required prior to shipment.  Our customer responded that they will only purchase with Net 30 or better terms.

Does anyone sell their products to China?  If so, do you offer open terms to your Chinese customers?  What do you do if you can't collect from them?

Mike,

We ask for wire transfer prior to shipment as well for the first 4 shipments.  After this, we will set terms at either discounted terms or fixed "short term" firm.  The money will be automatically wire transferred in.  We have been successful with this so far.

I am curious as to what products you are selling to China and how you were able to accomplish this. 

We have had opportunities to sell to China through our customers, but the Chinese government forced our customer to build a plant in China due to the volume that was being imported.

I have talked to our congressmen about the strain free trade with China has put on our business, and I always get the same response, we need to export our products to China.

China is a huge market, but tapping that market has been almost impossible.
