At Metro Plastics we do new employmee drug screening within the first 30 days of employment. The employee is notified of the drug screen requirement on our application and during the employment interview. In some cases the prospective employee will decline employment when this is explained. We also tell them, prior to employment, that we do random testing and mandantory testing if they are involved in an accident on the job
Once the employee starts the drug test is scheduled on company time or the employee is paid for the time allowed for the test if they work an off shift. The employee is not notified in advance when the test is to be taken. The surprise factor is necesary.
If the employee comes to us admiting a drug problem, we work with them on a probationary program. They must enter a program and be willing to have their councellor speak with us and pass future random screening. Any violations during or after the probation is cause for immediate dismissal.
We are considering in house testing to reduce cost. If anyone has done in house drug screening I would like to hear from you.
