What are the pros and cons of obtaining TS 16949 certification for plastics processors? Supplier development is key component. In compliance with clause 7.4.1.2 Supplier Development Requirement, how are plastics processors managing supplier QMS development with suppliers like DOW, Ashland and Sabic? Have you been successful at holding off customer pressure to to obtain certification even if you are compliant with the standard through ISO? Mark

We have some customers that required it even though we were compliant with ISO and QS. Many of the big automotive customers really don't care if you are actually compliant but need to check the box against their internal supplier requirements for the certification which is easier for them. Using the systems will make you a better supplier. Delaying or holding a customer off becomes a commercial or strategic decision if you are truly in compliance. Scott Titzer
