We are currently designing a mold that requires a temp of 325 to 350F mold temp.

we are going to use electric cartridge heaters that have two of them in each half of the mold.

the mold base size is approx 10x8x8. and it is a 48 cavity mold, very small parts, and a runner system shaped like a wagon wheel.

what are the pros and cons of this style heater?
we have used them 20years ago on another mold and had short out problems and hot spot problems.

Are they still like that today?

Thanks

I think that you will find the heaters of today much more reliable than those from twenty years ago.  Most heaters come with a variety of controls dependent upon your needs.  Be sure to use a preferred vendor such as Watlow and get a satisfactory control system.
