We are interested in utilizing a system that allows us to log and track the various tooling projects we are managing in-house and out-sourced (CHINA or wherever).  The ability to enter in the customer name, project name, part name, tooling project tasks/milestones (received p.o., Design, CNC, Sample, etc.), would be helpful.  And to assign a timeline to each tooling project, along with the ability to view (Gantt chart) all projects across a timeline. I know Microsoft Project is out there but looking for recommendations on any other program that may be more customized/tailored to Tooling.

Thanks,
Jamie

As a previous New Model Manager for an Automotive Tier 1 and a President of a mid-sized molder and now a President of a tool shop / molder; I highly recommend that you use MS Project or MS Excel.   In your comments you mention that you are NOT managing the timing for all of the many tasks of a tool build, but yet the milestones for project management.  MS Excel and MS Project are great tools and unsurpassed for capability.   With having studied a bit of "Theory of Constraints", Dr. Goldrat; there are softwares that are tailored to tool making, but require a tool maker brain and require extreme input with significant tool manufacturing knowledge.  If you own or operate a tool shop directly, then I could understand your need to move from MS Proj or Excel.   However, with more than 20 years of fighting your same dilemna, I assure you that you should just get on board with Excel or Project.   My company almost bought the TOC version software called Pro-Chain Pipeline and Concerto.  Both of which offer automated buffer management.  Managing small buffers in tool manufacturing is extremely important to controlling costs and delivering on time when multi-tasking is priority.  Both softwares mentioned will cost you in excess of $20K minimum.  http://www.prochain.com/solution_portfolio/so ...     Good luck !

Jamie,

Do you use IQMS?  I believe there is an add-on that does what you are looking for.
