Plastic Industry Forum - Converse with Plastics Processing Leaders / Business / Resin Price Increase Notices - How are you delivering the news?

During MAPP's Board meeting two weeks ago in Germantown, WI, I brought in my PolyOne marketing manager to update the MAPP Board Members on the state of the market place.

During the PolyOne presentation, an intense discussion developed around how to correctly notify customers of plastics raw material changes.  Part of my strategy is to ensure I have the resources and correct knowledge base to educate my customers about what is happening from both an economic vantage point AND from a plastics vantage point.  In doing this, I have had the opportunity to ensure that my resin professionals are with me at the table while I am delivering the news.

It seems to help but I wanted to see how others were handling this issue?

I am interested in ALL opinions, so please respond!

We have been successful in passing along the increases using the same formula.  It is crucial to have your sales person from the company that you purchase the material from present with you when passing along the increase in person.  The other way we have presented the pricing is to include a packet of documentation (price increase announcements and letters) along with our increase.

We have also tried to purchase an additional amount of material ahead of the increase, so that we could provide our customer more notice than what we have been supplied with.  This shows that we are making our best attempt to help our customers.

Hope this helps.
