Position Title: Sales / Tooling Engineer
Department: Sales
Reports To: Sales Manager
FLSA Type: Exempt
The statements included in this Position Description reflect, in general, the duties and responsibilities of this position and are not to be interpreted as being all-inclusive.

In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all associates are expected to conform to the following:

• Interact professionally with other associates, customers and suppliers.
• Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
• Work independently while understanding the necessity for communication and coordinating work efforts with other associates and organizations.

Support of the Sales and Engineering departments in new and existing products and processes. This is a very hand’s on position that will require both knowledge and expertise in tooling but daily preparation of part and tooling quotes.

* Essential *
A. Provides engineering support to sales for presentations to help sell manufacturing capabilities.
B. Reviews designs for injection molds including quoting, coordinating with mold builders, visiting and auditing mold builders, communicating with customers
C. Identifies program problems and develops solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications. May assist other Program managers with developing solutions for complex problems
D. Serve as the primary contact for tool shops contracted for all new tool builds
E. Responsible to work with program managers to ensure new tools meet DA and customer standards and specifications prior to shipment to DA
F. Assist with activities in tool room to ensure 100% efficiency for production tools (new & exiting).
G. Assist in Identifying and developing tooling vendors to support new business and existing tooling.
H. Lead tool review (DFM) with tool shops & customer to ensure best tool (cost, profit, reliability, etc.) development and construction.
I. Able to identify weaknesses in tool designs and recommend corrective action
J. Able to communicate technical aspects of mold designs with customers and communicate necessary revisions to design leaders
K. Responsible for establishing designated channels of communication with the customer and facilitating the communication of customer requirements to the design and manufacturing disciplines.
L. Prepare and deliver sales presentations to customers as needed.
M. Responsible to prepare and track quotations as needed for customer requests.
N. Responsible to estimate cycle times, press tonnage and other part specific requirements
O. Responsible to monitor and evaluate activities and products of the competition.
P. Responsible for managing multiple products simultaneously with cross-functional associates.
Q. Responsible for monitoring customer satisfaction to include targeted customers for courtesy visits quarterly or as needed.
R. Responsible to ensure that the production and delivery of product to the customer is planned and communicated in a manner that ensures conformance to the customer requirements. Specific aspects of contract review include:
i. Ensuring that all customer quality requirements are identified and are reflected in quotations and ensuring a review of the ISO14001/IATF16949 standard if applicable.
i. Issuance of contract requirements that specify the needs and expectations of the customer in terms of function, cost quantity, and delivery as specified in the contract or other associated documents.
ii. Assisting in Administration of the advance quality planning functions;
iii. Assuring that all customer quotations are processed in a timely manner.
S. Responsible for communicating with Japan parent company on any related issues.
T. Discuss technical information.
U. Responsible for interacting with management, all departments, and customers on any manufacturing or sales related issues.
V. Maintain customer correspondence and keep filing purged and updated, including transmissions from customer.
W. Prepare costing evaluations of new and existing products as requested or required.
X. Process customer surveys and materials or arrange with appropriate departments.
Y. Ensure or initiate new parts into D.A. Inc’s primary database system and launches products via D.A. Inc’s APQP management system.
Z. General related tasks as needed.

A. Ideally an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred,
8 years minimum related experience in design and fabrication of molds and tooling
B. Strong and broad plastic injection mold management and development experience
C. Strong with CAD, PRO-E, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and can demonstrate skill set
D. One to Three years sales experience required.
E. Understanding of plastic parts and tooling
F. Customer Service abilities – Must be able to handle difficult situations calmly.
G. Ability to read blueprints (drawings) required.
H. Good written and oral communication skills. – Speak clearly and listens and seeks clarification.
I. Excellent Math skills.
J. Problem solving skills.
K. Good computer skills (Proficient with Microsoft Office – MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
L. Good organizational and multi-tasking skills.

A. Must be able to sit, up to 100% in an 8-hour day, while performing clerical task
B. Must be able to perform finger and hand dexterity 100% in an 8-hour day.
C. Must be able to lift 10 lbs.
D. Must be able to wear safety glasses.
E. Travel Expected 30% of the time (travel is not weekly, and may be limited based on company need)
F. Primary resource for DA for tooling issues, review, and guidance
